Around 36,000 residents live in the colourful and creative Gallus district. The former working-class neighbourhood is undergoing constant change. The cityscape in Gallus is characterised by brick buildings and Bauhaus-style housing estates. The Galluswarte is a well-known landmark. The 14th century guard tower was built by the Frankfurt Landwehr and stands on the square of the same name in the centre of Mainzer Landstraße. With its well-developed infrastructure, central city centre location and range of restaurants and cultural activities, Gallus shines in a special light and continues to develop into an in-district. A particular highlight are the many green open spaces and initiatives such as the large-scale GallusGarden urban gardening project. They provide for neighbourly contacts and a new experience of nature in the city.
